Partnership to organize ‘Aqua Middle East’ with key aim of reinforcing food security in the UAE
The UAE Ministry of Environment and Water (MoEW) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Nor-Fishing Foundation and Informa Middle East Limited, one of the region’s leading providers of high quality conferences, to organize ‘Aqua Middle East’ (AquaME) and ‘Aqua ME Summit’ in conjunction with AgraME taking place from 16-18 March 2015 at the Dubai Exhibition and Convention Centre.
Nor-Fishing Foundation was established in 1992 by the Norwegian Ministry of Fisheries. Over the last 30 years, not only have they been responsible for organizing the Norwegian international fisheries exhibition “Nor-Fishing” – regarded as the leading international fisheries trade show – but also the leading international aquaculture venue “Aqua Nor” in Norway, making them the ideal international partner for AquaME.
The partnership is a move to consolidate and encourage cooperations to improve the aquaculture sector which falls in line with the UAE’s strategic objectives to promote food security and environmental sustainability contributing to the UAE’s Vision 2021.
The MoU was signed by MoEW Assistant Under Secretary for Support Services, Mr. Abdul Rahim Al Hammadi, and Nor-Fishing Foundation Chairman of Board, Mrs. Liv Holmefjord, and Informa Middle East Limited Exhibition Director Richard Pavitt, on 22nd of August 2014 in Trondheim, Norway in the presence of His Excellency Mohammed AlJuwaied UAE Ambassador to the Kingdom of Norway.
Under this MoU, all parties will work in close collaboration towards promoting the development of the aquaculture and fishing industry by hosting an exhibition to attract local and international suppliers from within these industries. Furthermore, in parallel to the trade show, the AquaME Summit, the second edition of the Aquaculture Investment Forum, will be organized to bring experts and specialists from around the world to exchange experiences, transfer knowledge and review best practices, advances and innovations in research, science and technology — thereby strengthening the aquaculture and fishing industry in the UAE. The first forum, which was held in November 2013, saw the participation of scientists, speakers, international experts in aquaculture from within the GCC region and internationally.
Informa Middle East Limited will undertake the launch and organization of the AquaME Exhibition and Summit which will simultaneously take place with AgraME, a leading international agribusiness trade show. Holding these events simultaneously is expected to draw a large audience as well as local, regional and international suppliers to review the latest products and services in these industries.
A special committee will be formed to help in the organization of the AquaME Exhibition and Summit. The committee, will be composed of representatives from the MoEW, Informa Middle East Limited and Nor-Fishing Foundation, who will meet regularly to throughout the year to ensure the success of the event.
It is worth mentioning that the total current market valuation of investments in to the UAE aquaculture sector stands at USD 321 million, with 20 million of that amount being invested in to the Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Marine Research Centre. The project, which was launched in February 2013, aims to produce 10 million juveniles per year of local indigenous species and will contribute to enhancing food security in the UAE. Furthermore, the center will support research focusing on overexploited species and habitat conservation measures.

وزارة البيئة والمياه توقّع مذكرة تفاهم مع مؤسسة "نور فيشينغ"النرويجية وشركة "إنفورما الشرق الأوسط المحدودة"لإطلاق وتنظيم معرض وقمة "أكوا الشرق الأوسط"
وقّعت وزارة البيئة والمياه مذكرة تفاهم مشتركة مع كل من المؤسّسة العالمية "نور فيشينغ"، وشركة "إنفورما الشرق الأوسط المحدودة-دبي"الرائدة في تنظيم المؤتمرات. وبموجب مذكرة التفاهم، سيتم إطلاق وتنظيم معرض وقمّة "أكوا الشرق الأوسط"في الفترة من 16 إلى 18 مارس المقبل في مركز دبي الدولي للمؤتمرات والمعارض.
وتأسست مؤسسة "نور فيشينغ"عام 1992 من قبل وزارة الثروة السمكية النرويجية، المؤسسة العالمية المسؤولة عن تنظيم المعرض الدولي النرويجي لمصائد الأسماك "نور فيشينغ"والمؤسسة العالمية الأولى الرائدة في تربية الأحياء المائية "أكوا نور"في النرويج على مدار 30 عاماً، الأمر الذي يجعلها الشريك العالمي الأمثل لـ"أكوا الشرق الأوسط "“AquaME”.
وتهدف الشراكة الجديدة إلى ترسيخ أواصر التعاون في مجال تنظيم المعارض المرتبطة بتربية الأحياء المائية، بما يؤكّد تحقيق الأهداف الاستراتيجية للوزارة الرامية إلى تعزيز الأمن الغذائي وضمان الإستدامة البيئية تنفيذاً للأجندة الوطنية لـ "رؤية الإمارات 2021".
وقام بتوقيع الإتّفاقية، يوم 22 أغسطس الجاري في مدينة تروندهايم النرويجية، كل من سعادة عبدالرحيم الحمادي، وكيل الوزارة المساعد للخدمات المساندة في وزارة البيئة والمياه؛ وليف هومفورد، رئيسة مجلس إدارة مؤسسة "نور فيشينغ"؛ وريتشارد بافيت، مدير المعرض في شركة "إنفورما للمعارض"و بحضور سعادة محمد الجويد سفير دولة الامارات العربية المتحدة بمملكة النرويج.
وبموجب مذكرة التفاهم، تم الاتفاق على التعاون الوثيق في مجال تطوير صناعة تربية الأحياء المائية واستزراع الأسماك من خلال تنظيم معرض "أكوا الشرق الأوسط" (AquaME) لاستقطاب الموردين المحليين والدوليين لاستعراض أحدث المنتجات والخدمات في المجال. وتزامناً مع المعرض الجديد، تمّ الإتفاق أيضاً على إطلاق "قمة أكوا الشرق الأوسط"بصفتها الملتقى الثاني للإستثمار في الأحياء المائية والتي ستستقطب خبراء وأخصائيين دوليين في مجال الأحياء المائية لتبادل الخبرات ونقل المعرفة واستعراض أفضل الممارسات والإبتكارات في مجال البحوث البحرية والتجارب العلمية والتقنية بما من شأنه تعزيز صناعة تربية الأحياء المائية واستزراع الأسماك في الدولة. والجدير بالذكر أن "الملتقى الأوّل للإستثمار في الأحياء المائية"والذي تمّ تنظيمه في نوفمبر/تشرين الثاني من العام الماضي، قد شهد إقبالاً إيجابياً من قبل المشاركين من العلماء والمتحدّثين والخبراء الدوليين في مجال تربية الأحياء المائية من منطقة الخليج العربي والعالم.
وستتولى شركة "إنفورما الشرق الأوسط للمعارض-دبي"تنظيم معرض "أكوا الشرق الأوسط"بالتزامن مع معرض "أغرا الشرق الأوسط" (AgraME)، المعرض التجاري العالمي المتخصّص في مجال الأعمال الزراعية. ومن المتوقّع أن يسهم الحدثان في استقطاب أعداد كبيرة من الزوّار والموردين المحليين والإقليميين والدوليين لإستعراض أحدث المنتجات والخدمات ذات الصلة بالقطاعين.
وسيتمّ تشكيل لجنة منظّمة لـ"قمة أكوا الشرق الأوسط"تتألّف من ممثلين من وزارة البيئة والمياه وشركة "إنفورما الشرق الأوسط المحدودة"والمؤسسة النرويجية "نور فيشينغ"، التي ستجتمع بشكل دوري خلال العام لضمان نجاح الحدث على جميع المستويات.
وتجدر الإشارة إلى أن حجم الإستثمارات الحالية في سوق تربية الأحياء المائية في دولة الإمارات يبلغ 321 مليون دولار أمريكي، حيث يتم إستثمار 20 مليون دولار منها في مشروع "مركز الشيخ خليفة بن زايد للأبحاث البحرية"الذي تم إطلاقه في شهر فبراير المنصرم والذي يهدف إلى إنتاج 10 ملايين من إصبعيات أسماك مختلفة في السنة الواحدة، بما من شأنه المساهمة الفاعلة في تعزيز الأمن الغذائي في الدولة. كما يهدف المركز أيضاً إلى دعم الأبحاث المتعلّقة بقضايا إستنزاف الثروة السمكية وحماية البيئة البحرية الحاضنة لها.
