A new economic hub is in the making with Iraq reviving its OPEC market share, this improved trade across the border has seen another important sector booming, which is Aviation. During the last few years, aviation has transformed into one of the fastest growing sector with Iraqi airways placing orders for new aircrafts and airports in like Erbil, Sulaimaniyah, Baghdad, Najaf and others announcing billions worth expansion plans.
More recently, direct flight services have been resumed between Iraq and Kuwait after a pause that lasted for more than two decades. The Iraqi carrier also opened air routes with countries such as Sweden, Britain, Malaysia, India and Denmark, in addition to neighbouring countries. New direct routes also will be opened soon with other countries, such as Azerbaijan. In January this year Russian Embassy in Baghdad announced that Iraq and Russia are working on opening a new direct flight route between Baghdad and Moscow.
The flag carrier also signed US$387 million agreement with Bombardier, which followed a letter of intent for five of the larger version of CSeries and with an option on another 11 CS300s. With incoming flights from around 30 carriers including Turkish Airlines, Emirates, Qatar Airway, Air Arabia, flydubai, Royal Jordanian, Jazeera Airways and EgyptAir, Iraqi airports are gearing up to handle the increasing passenger growth
Airports in the country have development plans worth US$50 billion for construction of new terminals, ATC / ATM, safety & security, IT support, maintenance, operations and all the segments of its airports. Expansion projects have been launched Baghdad, Basra, Erbil, Najaf, Mosul and Sulaymaniyah. Iraq is building one of the biggest airports near Karbala named Middle Euphrates International Airport (MEIA). An international airport project is under construction at Duhok in Kurdistan region.
After the successful conclusion of Iraq Airports Show 2013 in Baghdad, Babylon International FZE brings the ‘Iraq Airports Show 2014 – Conference and Exhibition’ hosted by Sulaimaniyah International Airport on 24th and 25th September 2014. Inaugurating the 2013 event, Iraqi Minster for Transport HE Hadi Al Amiri has said that Iraq is resolute to develop its aviation sector to match the global standards and is taking appropriate measures to cater the growing aviation industry demands in the country.
The two day event, to be held at Titanic Hotel & Spa, Sulaimaniyah – Republic of Iraq, will receive representatives from the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation Authority of Iraq. Also, airport directors from Sulaymaniyah, Baghdad, Basra, Erbil, Najaf and airport development project directors from Karbala, Duhok and Kirkuk.
The Iraq Airport show is expected to attract industry leaders from sectors including, Safety & security services, ATC / ATM, ground handling, aircraft manufacturers, MRO suppliers, MRO service providers, airport services, airport equipment manufacturers, suppliers, contractors, design & planning and services providers, banks, financial services, insurance companies and its allied industries.
Ram Muthaiah, General Manager of Babylon International FZE, the organisers of the event said, “The presence of airports cum government representatives and suppliers makes the event a must attend, because Iraqi aviation sector is experiencing a boom and through Iraq Airports Show we will be connecting major players in the industry to an emerging and lucrative aviation market.”

العراق يُعَدّ اليوم واحداً من أسرع البلدان نموّاً في أسواق الطيران!

مع بزوغ مركز اقتصادي في إحياء العراق لحصة سوق منظمة الدول المصدّرة للنفط (أوبك)، تشهد التجارة عبر الحدود ازدهار قطاع مهمّ آخر وهو الطيران. فخلال السنوات القليلة الماضية، تحوّل الطيران إلى واحد من أسرع القطاعات نموّاً مع الخطوط الجوية العراقية من حيث وضعها طلبات شراء طائرات جديدة ومطارات مثل أربيل والسليمانية وبغداد والنجف وغيرها ومُعلنةً خططاً توسّعية تقدّر بالمليارات.
ومؤخراً، تمّ استئناف خدمات رحلات طيران مباشرة بين العراق والكويت بعد توقف دام لأكثر من عقدين كاملين. كذلك، فتحت الشركة العراقية مسارات جوية مع بلدان عديدة مثل السويد وبريطانيا وماليزيا والهند والدانمارك وغيرها من البلاد المجاورة. فضلاً عن فتح مسارات جوية مباشرة جديدة قريباً مع بلدان أخرى مثل أذربيجان. وفي شهر يناير من هذا العام، أعلنت السفارة الروسية في بغداد أنّ العراق وروسيا تعملان على فتح خط طيران مباشر بين بغداد وموسكو.
كما أنّ الخطوط الجوية العراقية قد وقّعت عقداً مع شركة بومباردييه بقيمة 387 مليون دولار أمريكي، تلته رسالة نوايا من خمس أضخم نسخ من "مجموعة س"ومع خيار من 11 مجموعة أخرى CS300. ومع الطائرات القادمة من حوالي 30 شركة منها الخطوط الجوية التركية والإماراتية والقطرية والعربية للطيران والملكية الأردنية وفلاي دبي والجزيرة والمصرية، تستعدّ المطارات العراقية للتعامل مع تزايد عدد الركّاب القادمين والمغادرين.
تستعدّ المطارات في المنطقة تطوير خطط الإنماء المطروحة بقيمة 50 مليار دولار أمريكي لبناء محطات جديدة وأنظمة تحكّم بدرحات الحرارة وماكينات صراف آلية، وتوفير الأمن والحماية، والدعم الفني والصيانة والعمليات وجميع المقاسم في مطاراتها، لا سيما أنّ مشاريع التوسّع قد بدأت في كل من بغداد والبصرة وأربيل والنجف والموصل والسليمانية. فالعراق يبني واحداً من أكبر المطارات في العالم قرب كربلاء ويحمل اسم "مطار الفرات الأوسط الدولي" MEIA. فضلاً عن أنّ هناك مشروع مطار دولي قيد الإنشاء في دهوك في إقليم كردستان.
فبعد النجاح الذي حققه معرض المطارات العراقي للعام 2013 في بغداد، تستقطب منطقة بابل الدولية الحرّة معرض ومؤتمر المطارات العراقية للعام 2014، حيث يستضيفه مطار السليمانية الدولي في 24 و25 أيلول/سبتمبر 2014. وبافتتاحه معرض عام 2013، صرّح وزير النقل العراقي هادي العامري قائلاً: "العراق عازم على تطوير قطاع الطيران بما يتناسب مع المعايير العالمية ويتّخذ التدابير المناسبة لتلبية المطالب المتزايدة لصناعة الطيران في البلاد.
ينعقد المؤتمر والمعرض في فندق ومنتجع التايتانِك في السليمانية في مجهورية العراق ولمدّة يومين ومتتاليين، وسيحظى بتواجد ممثلين من وزارة النقل وهيئة الطيران المدني في العراق، فضلاً عن مدراء مطارات السليمانية وبغداد والبصرة وأربيل والنجف ومدراء تطوير مشاريع المطارات في كل من كربلاء ودهوك وكركوك.
ويُتوقّع أن يستقطب معرض مطار العراق نخبة من روّاد الصناعة من مختلف القطاعات منها، خدمات الأمن والحماية، وأنظمة التحكّم بدرجات الحرارة ماكينات الصرّاف الآلية وأرضيات المطارات وشركات تصنيع الطائرات ومورّدين ومقدّمي خدمات MRO وخدمات المطارات والمعدّات والاجهزة، فضلاً عن كبار المصنّعين والموردين والمقاولين وأصحاب التصميم والتخطيط والبنوك والخدمات المالية وشركات التأمين والصناعات.
من جهته، قال رام المثيّا، مدير عام منظقة بابل الدولية الحرّة: "إنّ وجود ممثّلي المطارات والحكومة والموردين يجعل الحدث مهماً ويجب حضوره لأنّ قطاع العراق للطيران يشهد ازدهاراً واسعاً لمطارات العراق وبفضل هذا المعرض سنقوم بإيصال الممثلين الرئيسيين في الصناعة إلى سلّم الربح في سوق الطيران الناشئ في البلاد".
